Amy Says…
This week in the United States is/was Thanksgiving, so this is a short newsletter with just two articles from guests – but they're good ones. Monica McKitterick talks about being on a reality TV show for entrepreneurs (hit reply and tell me how you feel about reality TV), and Carah Elizabeth shares her story of relinquishing her hard-earned professional therapist credentials because they no longer served her. I hope you enjoy them.
On a personal note from me, Amy: I traveled over Thanksgiving attempting to take my youngest kids skiing, only to have that plan thwarted by the omnipotent Mother Nature who did not provide enough snow. It was a first-world bummer that I feel very privileged to even consider complaining about. In other news, I also discovered that my local turkey trot still uses a photo of me and the kids from years ago in their promotions. A few friends saw it and sent it to me, which was fun. I love doing a turkey trot on Thanksgiving, but honestly my kids opted out as soon as they were old enough to say "no thanks, Mom."

It looks like there is snow. But sadly, it’s not enough snow in the right spots for adventure sports. Do you recognize this mountain? Hit reply and share where you think that I was for this trip 😃
When I get home, In addition to producing great episodes of the show; I'm preparing for a couple of fun speaking engagements. In December, I'm speaking at Podcast to Profit, and in January I'm at Podfest in Orlando. At both, I'm sharing what I've learned – or what I think I've learned – in this first year of producing The Art of Imperfect Adulting.

Business Growth | What Really Happens on a Reality Entrepreneur Show?

Monica Mckitterick
Monica McKitterick won first place. She beat out hundreds of entrepreneurs, took home $10,000, and earned validation she didn't even know she was seeking. But the aftermath of winning The Blocks, a televised entrepreneurial competition, didn't unfold the way she expected. Instead of the post-victory high propelling her forward on the trajectory she'd imagined, it sent her into a period of burnout, soul-searching, and ultimately, a complete redefinition of what success actually means.

Career | Why I Gave Up My Therapist License to Follow My Passion
The time investment was staggering: 10 to 11 years of education, 6,400 hours of supervised clinical work, student debt, and the weight of a professional identity built over two decades. Then Carah Elizabeth walked away from her license as a clinical psychotherapist. Not because she failed at it. Not because she stopped caring about helping people heal. But because the very credential she'd worked so hard to earn had become a barrier to the work she felt called to do.
This is the story most people don't tell about career reinvention. A story where letting go of what you worked hardest to achieve becomes the gateway to your most meaningful work. Carah's journey from licensed therapist to somatic nervous system coach illuminates a truth many high-achievers face: sometimes the credentials that validate us professionally also constrain us personally.
