Amy Says…
Hello {{first_name}} ,
I did something new this week. I traveled from Miami where I live to Orlando to give a short presentation about my show and instead of driving I took a train.
Taking the train was a very enjoyable experience. I had no issues. Shortly after my experience one of the trains was apparently delayed because it ran over a food delivery robot. This feels to me like it’s one of those - only in Florida stories. You can watch the train squash the robot here: https://youtu.be/gj6JDkx3A6k?si=OqzEkzpUYByd-7Oy

There are two stories this week, Enjoy!

Perfectionism | Finding Joy After Burnout

D’Layne Benson
D'Layne Benson appeared to have it all together. She was a post-anesthesia nurse at a rural Idaho hospital, managing multiple responsibilities at work while being the dependable rock for everyone in her personal life. Her colleagues would have described her as competent and calm. Her family saw her as the person they could count on. She saw herself as simply doing what needed to be done.
"I still hadn't realized it," Benson said. "I just simply thought, man, a lot of people really depend on me. I feel pretty overextended, but I'm still managing. So it's fine. Let's keep going, keep pushing."
What she didn't realize was that beneath the calm exterior, her nervous system was screaming.

Healthy Changes | Getting Sober When You Think You Can’t Quit
Mary Alice Stephens stood at her kitchen counter on an ordinary Tuesday morning in 2010, staring at the weekly calendar printout she'd just pulled from her printer. As a former television producer, she'd always been meticulous about planning. But on this particular morning, she couldn't remember what had happened the night before. The blank spaces in her memory terrified her more than any deadline ever had.
This moment of clarity didn't arrive with dramatic fanfare. There was no intervention, no car accident, no ultimatum from family or friends. Instead, it came during the quiet domestic routine of a Marin County housewife preparing for another week of school drop-offs and birthday parties. Mary Alice had reached her rock bottom, and it looked nothing like the cautionary tales she'd grown up hearing about the "drunks" in her family. She was functional, social, and by all external measures, successful. She was also an alcoholic who desperately needed help with alcohol recovery.
